Pulmonary Hypertension
57A person normally never searchs the Internet for health conditions until they or a loved one is stricken with one. in most cases these conditions are treatable with medicine or surgery. Imagine for a moment if you will, what you would think or do if you or your loved one acquired a relatively new and incurable disease or disorder. Because this condition is incurable you or your loved one will die. Death we all know is a process of life. Everyone knows they will die...someday. Now imagine you are barely 30 years old, or your loved one is your child.
Nightmare or...Reality?
A child is supposed to outlive their parent right? I mean we all understand the horrible incident of a drunk driver, or a robber taking your loved ones' life but what if the culprit can't be caught and prosecuted? What if the culprit is an unseen villian that is none other than an incurrable disease that is choking the very life out of her? What then? Pulmonary Hypertension was the diagnosis she was given with no cure and 1 to 3 years to live, five at best. Many sites such as this one; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxtcwijYfNM give a basic understanding of the disease but does not fully explain that it is still an incurable disease and to date still no known cure. The very name frightenes you to the point that you pray the doctor is wrong, he has to be wrong your heart and mind scream. But several doctors agree, your daughter, just barely over 30 and the mother of four children has a very rare condition that causes the pulmonary artery in her heart to constrict and eventually close off. The right side of her heart is enlarged and will only get bigger until, unless she has a double lung and possibly a heart/lung transplant her heart will explode and she will die. Yes there are medicines that may help ease the symptoms but are all experiemental and will not cure her!
Terror
Through the years your child is hospitalized frequently; first because she had a 'slight heart attack' then repetadly because she has greater difficulity breathing and a couple times because they think she has a blood clot in her lungs. A few times she develops an infection at her site where she has her intra muscular medicine pump. Each time you are gripped with fear that this time you will loose her. You dred the day you may have to tell her children that their mother died, that she is never coming home again. You pray daily that they will find a cure in time for your daughter.
